INFORMATION
Your home is probably one of your largest investments. To protect your home and your possessions, it is important to have the proper Homeowner's Insurance coverages. Here is a brief summary of some of the basic coverages that a home insurance policy provides: Coverage A- Dwelling This section of the policy provides a limit of insurance for the dwelling itself. The amount should be equal to 100% of the replacement cost of the dwelling and not what the market value of your home is. Coverage B- Other Structures This section of the policy provides a limit of insurance for structures that are detached from the main dwelling. This could include a garage, shed, barn, or swimming pool. A limit of 10% of the Coverage A amount is included in the basic policy, whether you have any detached structures or not. Higher Coverage B limits can be purchased for an additional premium. Coverage C- Personal Property This section of the policy provides a limit of insurance for your personal property. A limit of 50% of the Coverage A amount is included in the basic policy. Higher Coverage C limits can be purchased for an additional premium. Do you have an accurate inventory of your personal
property and its current value?
Coverage D- Additional Living Expense This section of the policy provides a limit of insurance for expenses incurred if you cannot occupy your home after a covered loss. A limit of 20% of the Coverage A amount is included in the basic policy. Coverage E- Personal Liability This section of the policy provides a limit of insurance for bodily injury and property damage for which you are legally liable. Most policies include a limit of $100,000. Higher limits can be purchased for an additional premium. Coverage F- Medical Payments To Others This section of the policy provides a limit of insurance
to pay for injuries to others that occur on your property regardless of
fault. Most policies include a limit of $1,000. Higher limits can be purchased
for an additional premium.
